28 May DISCOSHARK TO PRESIDE OVER SCUBA SHOW 2024
The star of Coachella every year since 2014, DiscoShark is now celebrating its 11th anniversary. New York-based artist and conservationist Kevin McHugh created this beautiful shark with mirrored tiles for that popular music festival. He wanted to transform the passé notion of “trophy fish” into a stunning work of art, but he was surprised at how well “Sharkchella” was received and how it has attracted millions of fans globally.
Since then, Kevin and his DiscoShark have bounced between the worlds of music and marine conservation, always donating a portion of proceeds to saving sharks. He’s even received the stamp of approval from Daymond John of “Shark Tank” and President Biden posed for a photo with DiscoShark. It’s also raised over $50,000 for ocean conservation groups like Oceana, WildAid and Shark Savers.
In the words of DiscoShark, “I am art. I am music. I am conservation. I am as cool as one can get. Wanna be cool as well? Check out all the ways you can help, do something about all the craziness going on in the oceans, and join me on my journey.”
At the show, you’ll find DiscoShark glittering over the Try Diving pool. DiscoShark measures in at over seven feet, and is covered in over 6,000 glass mirror tiles. Come admire this stunning work of art, then meet Kevin and see some of his other work.
