When & Where To Dive In Solomon Islands:
You can dive in the Solomons at any time of the year as dive sites are chosen depending on daily tidal movements and prevailing weather. The islands enjoy a tropical climate all year round as we are located only a few degrees below the equator. Seasons: there are two distinct seasons in the Solomons, the Wet from Oct/Nov – Apr/May and the Dry from Apr/May – Oct/Nov. The wet season brings us mostly westerly/northerly weather patterns with rain, light winds and calm seas whereas the dry season brings us predominantly easterly/southerly weather patterns with clear skies and 10-15 knot trade winds most afternoons. Humidity: Usually high, particularly inland but lower in smaller islands and along the coast lines. Temperature: The South East Trade winds from June to August mean the air temperature and humidity are a bit lower than normal. Average air temperature is 27C and the average water temperature is 29C-30C. Exposure gear for diving is always a personal choice, however most visitors find it comfortable to dive in a 2mm wetsuit or a combination lycra and short suit. For those partaking in 4-5 dives a day, additional thermal protection is recommended even though the water and air seem warm. The dive sites, their descriptions and associated images contained within this guide are provided by members of the Association of Dive Operators, Solomon Islands (DOSI
