Event Details
380 MILES NORTH OF THE BRITISH INDIAN OCEAN TERRITORY OF DIEGO GARCIA LIES THE ADDU ATTOLL. THE ISLAND OF GAN IS THE SOUTHERNMOST TIP OF THE MALDIVES CHAIN. A SECRET HARBOUR TO REFUEL ALLIED SHIPS IN WW2 AND A ROYAL NAVAL AIR STATION, THE ISLAND WAS FORGOTTEN UNTIL 1950. THE BRITISH CREATED A ROYAL AIR FORCE STATION ON THE ISLAND, WHICH CLOSED IN 1976. IN THE LATE 1990’S GAN ISLAND OPENED TO TOURISM, WHICH HAS BEEN LACKLUSTRE. IN 2009 A DUTCHMAN, MARC KOWENBURG, OPENED A SCUBA CENTRE, AND STARTED TO SHOWCASE THE DIVING IN GAN, WHICH IS NOTHING SHORT OF MAGNIFICENT. THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE NOT HEARD OF GAN TELLS YOU THAT IT IS BARELY DIVED. THIS IS THE STORY OF DIVING IN GAN.
