No Kid Hungry logoThe annual Scuba Show Saturday evening event is a party for a cause. Money raised from the evening will go to benefit No Kid Hungry. We asked the Bridges family which efforts they support, and Jeff Bridges is the inspiration and spokesperson for No Kid Hungry. 1 in 6 children in America faces hunger, all across the United States, in every community, and No Kid Hungry is a movement of celebrities, teachers, chefs, community leaders, parents, lawmakers and CEOs with a shared mission and solid programs to end child hunger in America.

Join us in the Great Hall at the Aquarium of the Pacific (just a short walk from the convention center!) to raise money for No Kid Hungry and celebrate 60 years of Sea Hunt. You’ll be able to explore all of the aquarium exhibits during the event!

Sea Hunt coversCELEBRATING SEA HUNT: 60 Years later, Lloyd Bridges as an inspiration

1958. It has been 60 years since Sea Hunt first graced America’s tiny silver screens. The show had a profound impact on the sport of scuba diving. The ocean-loving protagonist Mike Nelson was so artfully played by Lloyd Bridges that countless divers attribute their fascination with scuba entirely to Sea Hunt.

Sea Hunt inspired waves of new divers for decades following the show. Many young children that spent nights watching Mike Nelson submerge into the black and white blue grew up to become divers themselves. Some turned it into a career. Certainly, the diving industry owes more to this show than could ever be quantified. But Sea Hunt left a much larger legacy – a generation that saw the ocean as more than sand and water; a generation with a hunger to explore beyond the shore; and a generation that set out to the build the sport of scuba diving.

Sea Hunt planted the seeds of understanding and compassion for our oceans. Lloyd Bridges, followed by Jacque Cousteau, gave children and people all across America a whole new world to dream about. For these reasons, and on behalf of all of the divers who were inspired by the show and the following generations that they inspired — and on this 60th anniversary of Sea Huntwe have chosen to honor Lloyd Bridges posthumously with the California Scuba Service Award. It will be a special event at this year’s Scuba Show celebration.

Accepting the award will be Lucinda Bridges, daughter of Lloyd Bridges, and Sea Hunt co-star Zale Parry (2016 California Scuba Service Award recipient).
